NEW WAVE OF
AMERICAN 'ALIYA'
Almost 400 new immigrants will fly to
Israel this July at the onset of a new wave of American aliyah
[immigration to Israel]. The large group - probably the
largest single planeload of immigrants (olim) to arrive in
Israel from countries other than Russia, Ethiopia, and Yemen -
is sponsored by a new foundation that has set as its goal no
less than to "ultimately change the face of North American
Aliyah."
The organization, Nefesh B'Nefesh - Jewish
Souls United - was formed last year to "revitalize North
American Aliyah and to expand it for generations to come by
removing the financial, professional, social and logistical
obstacles that are preventing many 'would-be' Olim from
fulfilling their dream." Co-founder Tony Gelbart specifies:
"There indeed are hundreds of individuals [and families with]
student debts, loans, tuitions, etc. and by the time they pay
off their debts, they and their children are already too
settled in their communities to make Aliyah. We decided to
eliminate those hurdles."
The organization, wishing to
"send an unmistakable signal of North American-Israeli Jewish
solidarity and joint determination to strengthen the State of
Israel," awards financial grants based on financial need to
potential olim. Those who remain in Israel for three years or
more need not repay the monies at all. Nefesh B'Nefesh has so
far sponsored 535 olim. The financial assistance granted to
Nefesh B'Nefesh recipients comes from private, corporate and
foundation donations.
Nefesh B'Nefesh also assists in
alleviating aliyah obstacles such as housing, jobs, social
acculturation and the like, in cooperation with established
Aliyah organizations, the Jewish Agency, and the Government of
Israel. Co-founder and Executive Director Rabbi Joshua Fass
stated, "Imagine people all over the globe understanding that
Israel is not just a haven for those who are fleeing, but that
Israel itself is a primary choice for those who have
alternatives, current stability and comfort. This plane will
hopefully send an unmistakable message of solidarity to
Israeli citizens... and it will send an unquestionable message
to all of our friends and relatives in North America that they
can do it too. This is the first plane of many to follow."
AL QAIDA SPOKESMAN: 'MUSLIMS CLAIM RIGHT TO KILL 4
MILLION'
Muslims have the right to kill 4 million
Americans – including 2 million children – based
on Islamic teachings, according to an article attributed to an
al-Qaida spokesman. "We have not reached parity with them,"
wrote Suleiman Abu Gheith, who contended that the U.S. has
killed millions of Muslims around the world in places such as
Iraq, the Palestinian territories, Sudan, the Philippines and
Afghanistan.
"Furthermore, it is our right to fight
them with chemical and biological weapons, so as to afflict
them with the fatal maladies that have afflicted the Muslims
because of the [Americans'] chemical and biological weapons,"
Abu Gheith wrote on the Center for Islamic Research and
Studies' website, which reportedly is linked to al-Qaida.
He warned that "America must prepare itself; it must
go on maximum alert; .. because, Allah willing, the blow will
come from where they least expect it. †¦ " Abu Gheith
found justification for killing Americans in the Islamic holy
book, the Koran, in which "Allah said, 'He who attacked you,
attack him as he attacked you,' … ."

was translated into English by the Middle East Media Research
Institute, an independent, non-profit organization that

CURIOUS COMPARISON: THE
NEW 'PALESTINIAN' ISSUE - IN OUR BACKYARD?
A healthy
majority of Mexicans claim that their country rightfully owns
much of the southwestern United States, while most Americans
believe Washington should adopt stricter immigration standards
and deploy U.S. troops along the border, a new poll says.
According to a just-published survey conducted by Zogby
International, the polling firm found that a majority of
Mexicans say the U.S. southwest "rightfully belongs to
Mexico," and that Mexican citizens should be able to come into
those areas freely, without U.S. permission. For some time
now, political and intelligence analysts have been projecting
that the U.S. could face the very same problem Israel has
faced with the Palestinians - exactly what this article
reports. These Mexicans are essentially saying the very same
thing that the Palestinians claim - 'it really belongs to us;
we should have free access," etc. ,etc.
The poll found
that 58 percent of Mexicans agree with the statement, "The
territory of the United States' southwest rightfully belongs
to Mexico." Zogby said 28 percent disagreed, while another 14
percent said they weren't sure. A similar number – 57
percent – agreed that "Mexicans should have the right
to enter the U.S. without U.S. permission," while 35 percent
disagreed and 7 percent were unsure.
"There is
obviously a large and significant gap between the attitudes of
Americans and Mexicans," said Robert Goldsborough, president
of Americans for Immigration Control, which commissioned the
poll. "While most Americans want immigration reduced, most
Mexicans think they don't even need permission to enter our
country," he said.
This announcement, along with the
ongoing border problems with Mexico, should be quite
thought-provoking for all of us. Who wants to tell Washington
that we should 'give back' Texas, New Mexico, etc. to the
Mexicans and allow them to set up their own governement and
political entity within the recognized United States borders?
There is a clear biblical principle throughout the
scriptures - what you sow, you reap. If the United States
should press Israel into giving up land acquired in the 1967
war (like we acquired much of the southwest) will we reap the
consequences of a Mexian 'Intifada' on our soil in divine
retribution?
It seems that the primitive foundation
for such a scenario is already in place.
Keep praying
for our President as he weighs his next steps regarding the
Middle East.
Shalom,
Barbara
